The donor controlled UniParty/Establishment faction of the Colorado Republican Party launched a three-pronged attack this week on the push to liberate the Republican primary and return it to a system where you must be a Republican to vote in the GOP primary.
ATTACK NUMBER ONE – HORN OP ED There is growing widespread support – especially among the grassroots - to opt out of the disastrous open primary system and also for the on-going lawsuit challenging the open primary law. That’s why Brita Horn pretended she shared that support only to perform a 180 once elected chair. Her RINO tendencies asserted themselves and she wrote an Editorial in the Denver Post making it clear she now supports continuing the open primary. She wrote, “Open, competitive primaries produce stronger candidates…”. The reality is just the opposite, open primaries invite Democrat meddling and the GOP has been losing races they used to win ever since it was enacted in 2016.
ATTACK NUMBER TWO – DICK WADHAMS OP ED The day after Horn’s editorial appeared perennial RINO Dick Wadhams wrote his own piece in the Anschutz medial industrial complex also supporting the open primary. He took it a step further and called on the new UniParty/Establishment CO GOP leadership to drop the ongoing lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the open primary law.
ATTACK NUMBER 3 – KIRKMEYER STRIKES DEAL WITH DEMS The third attack is sneakiest of all. RINO Queen, Sen. Barb Kirkmeyer cut a deal with the devil Democrats in the Legislature in an e ort to change the law to make it virtually impossible for the GOP to vote to opt out of the open primary. The current law requires 75% of the voting members of the State Central Committee to vote to opt out. That is an almost impossible margin to reach. But the UniParty is terrified of the growing opt out support so Kirkmeyer wrote up a proposed law change that would make it even harder. She inserted it into the Democrats controversial bill (HB 25-1315) regarding filling vacant elected o ices. She promised she’d support the Democrats’ bill if they would let her put in “Section Three”. It prohibits using proxies in any opt out vote and adds if an SCC member does not vote, their vote would automatically count as a vote to stay in the open primary. As a practical matter, all the UniParty wing has to do is simply not vote and the opt out would be defeated.
FOLLOW THE MONEY The beginning and end of the open primary road is about money and influence. Kirkmeyer and the RINOs want to get rid of the caucus and assembly system because that’s where grassroots candidates succeed. They prefer open primaries with the pay to play system where deep pocket donors and dark money Democrats pick and control the candidates.
